T-Mobile today revamped its Sidekick messaging phones with two new models, both of which break new ground for the series. The Sidekick LX is the first ever to bring a wide, 320×240 screen to the series and is said to borrow elements of Sharp’s experience with its AQUOS HDTVs to provide higher picture quality. It can also create a personalized mood for messaging at night: users can customize ambient lighting around the front face. T-Mobile bundles the LX with a 128MB microSD card to store photos taken with the 1.3-megapixel camera as well as other data.

3 Italia has picked a new LG cellphone, the U960. The handset places heavy emphasis on TV viewing, not only through a digital DVB-H tuner, but also by snapping the sliding screen horizontally, enabling widescreen video while allowing access to the numberpad.
The phone has other high-end features like 3.6 Mbps HSDPA, UMTS/GSM/GPRS (2100/900/1800/1900Mhz) Triband connectivity, 2.2?, QVGA 320×240 pixel, 262K color TFT LCD, 2 megapixel camera with 2x digital zoom and QCIF and QVGA video recording, front VGA camera for video calls, USB 2.0 and Bluetooth A2DP, 5MB of user memory, and microSD card slot.
3 Italia is selling the U960 for €102 ($144) as part of a plan.
