Nokia Reveals Top 10 Developers of Mobile Games Innovation Challenge

Nokia today announced the top 10 developers of its Mobile Games Innovation Challenge. The winners, to be announced at an exclusive awards ceremony later this month, will take home a total prize value of EUR 70,000. The three most innovative game concepts will be offered Nokia Publishing pre-production contracts. In addition, the first winner will be awarded EUR 40,000, the second EUR 20,000, and the third EUR 10,000 to enable further development of the chosen concept.

An independent panel of industry experts from across the globe has spent the past few weeks deliberating through over a hundred entries to come up with a shortlist of the most innovative mobile games concepts. Entries were judged on game innovation, fun, feasibility of execution, and market potential. The top three developers who best meet these requirements will be invited to present their concepts at the upcoming Nokia Games Summit in Rome, Italy on October 29, 2008.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Available for Mobiles

yesterday, THQ has announced that Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is available on mobile phones around the world, not just on the iPhone and the N-Gage platform. This is great news for Star Wars fans, since the game will become available for over 850 handsets.

The mobile game will put players in the shoes of Darth Vader’s secret apprentice, during the long and unexplored era between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. This is a period spanning almost 20 years, since at the end of Revenge of the Sith Luke Skywalker was born, while in Episode IV A New Hope, he was about 20 years old. This is indeed an interesting period, and the game promises to be up to the challenge.

Players will have to assist Darth Vader in his quest to rid the universe of Jedi Knights – and also make a decision that could change the course of their destiny. The whole game offers truly cinematic action in really well designed and breathtaking 3D visuals.

With this game, the CellWeaverT mobile control system (that was created by THQ Wireless’ development studio Universomo) is introduced. It allows players to form sequence patterns through the phone’s keypad, thus making it possible for them to feel and use the Force.
