Yahoo Interested in Bringing Its Own Phone Too

The Gphone is so yesterday’s news. Yahoo might just take away from Google’s glory with their own plans on developing a personal mobile phone. Yahoo is a search engine too, so why shouldn’t this work? No logic in that.

Yahoo might have felt that its efforts are not appreciated as much as they should and that Google’s lead on them is getting too big. The solution was that of keeping a close track of their work and dimming the difference as much as possible. In fact, the company might have been working on such a concept for even longer than Google has, but has managed to keep a low basis on it and make less of a fuss about it.

There are several hints pointing towards this possibility, giving strong grounds to it. Yahoo has a strong research and development centre in California, where around 120 people work on exploiting the telecom environment. Most of these employees have formerly worked for Motorola, which gives them an important experience in mobile phones.

Probably the strongest argument comes from a HTC executive who stated that Yahoo is on a parallel track with Google. Moreover, he said that Yahoo has been working on this project for a longer time than its main competitor and that there are high chances for them to beat Google to it. A Yahoo handset has high chances of arriving next year, too.

This information adds some thrill to the race that the two search engine companies have engaged in for being the first to launch a personal handset. Both companies are keeping a low ground on this matter, avoiding to make any comments on the evolution of their work. Both have adapted their search bars for mobile phone use, although Google has had more success with it until now and also a stronger presence in the mobile environment.
