Ericsson and Telkomsel Deploy Solar-driven GSM Base Station in Indonesia

Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) today announced its latest evolution in low-energy telecommunication solutions, a solar-driven and energy-efficient main-remote GSM base station deployed in conjunction with leading Indonesian operator PT Telekomunikasi Selular (Telkomsel). The breakthrough deployment will provide macro coverage in the untapped areas of Sumatra and address the mobile communications needs in the rural areas in Indonesia.

The Main-Remote GSM base station RBS 2111 is part of the Ericsson Communications Expander portfolio. It has a smaller environmental footprint than a standard base station, consuming up to 60 percent less energy. The remote radio unit is placed at the top of the tower, reducing feeder loss and power use. The solution is also easy to deploy, with the heaviest component weighing only 35kg.

Ericsson to Deliver WCDMA/HSPA Network in Israel

Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) has been chosen by Israeli operator Pelephone to deliver a new WCDMA/HSPA network migrating from an existing CDMA network. The new countrywide network will include the latest cutting edge technology from Ericsson for mobile broadband.

Pelephone, an Israeli mobile operator with more than 2.5 million subscribers, has chosen Ericsson as the partner for the creation of its new WCDMA/HSPA mobile broadband network. Ericsson will deliver Radio Base Stations and the latest technology in soft switches over a period of one year. Upon finalization, Pelephone will offer its customers nationwide coverage with the latest HSPA technology. The agreement will strengthen Pelephone’s position as a leading Israeli 3G network operator and service provider.

Fully owned by Bezeq, the largest and leading telecommunications corporation in Israel, Pelephone is a major mobile operator in Israel, that led the country to a mobile penetration rate that is one of the highest in the world.

Ericsson’s High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) solution provides increased data speeds by introducing significant enhancements in the uplink and the downlink. The advanced technology boosts network capacity and cuts response times for interactive services, increasing the performance of mobile broadband. The contract also covers support services, deployment, integration and educational services.

AIS Thailand Standardizing on Nokia Platform

Nokia announced that AIS Thailand, the country’s biggest operator, has selected Nokia Intellisync Mobile Suite as their standard platform for mobile applications. The solution will enable AIS Thailand to offer mobile email and other business applications to their corporate customers immediately. The operator will also offer Nokia E51, a business smartphone and the latest addition in the Nokia Eseries portfolio, as a part of their device portfolio.

Ericsson and Elisa switch on WCDMA/HSPA in 900MHz band

Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) and Finnish operator Elisa yesterday activated the operator’s WCDMA/HSPA network addition in the 900MHz frequency band. The new part of the network is seamlessly integrated in Elisa’s existing WCDMA/HSPA network in the 2.1GHz band. Ericsson’s WCDMA/HSPA portfolio for the 900MHz band offers Elisa a cost-efficient way to further expand the coverage of its WCDMA/HSPA network in sparsely inhabited areas of Finland.

Ericsson Drives 2G/3G Network for ANTEL Uruguay

Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) has been selected by Uruguay’s leading telecom operator, Administración Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (ANTEL), to be the supplier for its dual 2G/3G core network modernization program.

Under the contract Ericsson will be the integrator and take full turnkey responsibility for the supply of equipment, deployment, integration, and live migration. Rollout has started while the complete installation and integration is expected to be finished during last quarter 2007.
