Vodafone selects Ericsson for national mobile broadband rollout

Vodafone Australia has appointed Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) as the primary hardware and software vendor to support its national mobile broadband rollout, based on High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) technology, which is being fast-tracked for completion in December 2008.

Vodafone’s national network upgrade will deliver an enhanced experience to the growing number of business and personal customers using Vodafone Mobile Connect data cards and USB modems. The upgrade will also improve Vodafone’s capacity to provide high-quality voice calls, SMS, video messaging and Vodafone live! services, such as mobile news, entertainment and the best of the web, to customers in more areas.

Verizon Launches Car and Driver SlideShow Application

Verizon today launched a new application called Car and Driver SlideShow. Developed by Viva Vision, the application is an interactive SlideShow one that will bring users the latest automotive images from Car and Driver, the famous American automotive magazine.

Car and Driver SlideShow will allow mobile users to view a large number of images with the best automobiles, speed vehicles, and concept cars that appear in the Car and Driver magazine. The application packs the received content in seven SlideShow categories, each of them containing 10 images. The platform created by Viva Vision for Car and Driver SlideShow gives users a full control of the slide-shows, thus they can rewind, pause or fast-forward whenever they want.

“Our SlideShow products expand the entertainment and content options for Verizon Wireless customers,” said Nick Montes, president of Viva Vision.

The new Car and Driver SlideShow application is available for Verizon’s subscribers for a $4.49 monthly fee and compatible with almost 50 phones, including LG’s Venus and Chocolate, MOTORIZR Z6tv, MOTORAZR maxx Ve, Samsung Alias and so on. Users can get it from the Picture & Video shopping area of Verizon’s Get It Now virtual store.

E-Plus Selects Ericsson for Upgrading WCDMA network

Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) has been selected by German mobile operator E-Plus to expand and upgrade its WCDMA network. The deal also includes the expansion and enhancement of the E-Plus microwave transmission network and will allow subscribers to enjoy best-quality mobile data services in most parts of Germany.

Under the three-year agreement, Ericsson will upgrade E-Plus’ existing Ericsson WCDMA base stations and add new 3G base stations to increase network coverage and capacity. Ericsson will also supply microwave transmission solutions, including MINI-LINK TN, to support capacity growth for the transmission network. Ericsson will also provide network technology consulting services.

Ericsson’s microwave transmission solutions shift voice and data traffic from the radio access to the core network, enhancing the capacity of the mobile network backbone to cope with increased traffic in the radio network.

Carsten Ahrens, President of Ericsson Germany, said, “We are proud to support E-Plus’ strategic initiative with the supply of our advanced 3G and microwave transmission technology. Our leading mobile broadband solutions will allow the E-Plus Group to introduce innovative mobile internet and multimedia services cost-effectively and quickly.”
