Anyone looking for a smaller iPhone alternative may be interested in Samsung’s P520, an ultra-slim mobile that features in-vogue iPhone-style touchscreen-control.

The Samsung P520 maintains the super-slim style of its recent Ultra series of mobile phones, measuring a pocketable 88(h) x 54(w) x 8.9(d) mm and 102g in weight. It’s more compact than the rival touchscreen Prada Phone by LG.

True-zoom Samsung G800 Cameraphone on the Way

Only last week, Samsung launched its 5-megapixel Samsung G600 mobile phone. But already it’s developing an even more advanced cameraphone.

The Samsung G800 will share the same 5-megapixel sensor as its predecessor, but it’ll include a sliding cover under which a lens with a 5.6-17.4mm autofocus range will appear. Real-world zoom is often missing from mobile phone cameras so if this model appears it’ll be good news for photographers on the move.

Ericsson and Texas Instruments to Co-develop Innovative 3G Solutions

Ericsson, the world’s leading telecom supplier, and Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI), the global leader in silicon solutions for wireless communications, announce that the companies will form a strategic technology engagement to develop custom solutions for new Open OS enabled 3G devices.

Solutions from the technology created by the two companies will combine small and power efficient 3G modems from Ericsson Mobile Platforms with high-performance OMAP(TM) applications processors from TI. Solutions from the joint engagement will include OMAP, custom basebands and connectivity technologies and will be capable of supporting the major Open OS, which offer easy access to a rich array of applications and services. The result of this joint effort will enable all device manufacturers to offer advanced Open OS handsets for both the high-end and the rapidly growing mid-range market.

A-GPS Service for Nokia Maps Users

This Assisted GPS (A-GPS) service helps Nokia Maps users find their current locations faster and get to their desired locations quicker using their Nokia mobile device with built-in GPS.

Nokia intends to equip all of its future devices that have built-in GPS with this service. The first devices to use this service are the Nokia 6110 Navigator, which has begun shipping in select markets, and the most recent software release of the Nokia N95 multimedia computer.
