Nokia Intellisync Selected as du Branded Mobile Email Solution

Nokia today announced that du, the new telecom operator in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), is set to offer Nokia Intellisync Wireless Email to its consumer and business customers in summer 2007. The service is aimed at providing secure, easy-to-set-up mobile email and PIM (personal information management) functionalities for users ranging from individuals to businesses.

du is the UAE’s second national telecommunications provider and started its mobile service in February 2007. To distinguish itself in a well-saturated mobile market like the UAE, du has committed to deliver highly innovative and user-friendly services to its customers.

Nokia Requests ITC Investigation into Qualcomm

Nokia announced it has filed a complaint with the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) alleging that Qualcomm has engaged in unfair trade practices through infringing 5 Nokia patents in its CDMA and WCDMA/GSM chipsets. Nokia is requesting that the ITC initiate an investigation and issue an exclusion order to bar importation to the United States of infringing Qualcomm chipsets, and products such as handsets, containing the infringing chipsets.

Qualcomm’s unfair trade practices include importing products, selling products for importation, and/or selling products after importation, and inducing others to import products such as handsets, that infringe Nokia patented technology in certain Qualcomm GSM/WCDMA and CDMA2000 chipsets.

New Device Management Features Boost Nokia Intellisync Mobile Suite

Nokia unveils today the new device management features of its Nokia Intellisync Mobile Suite. Wider device support, tighter integration to enhance user experience, remote control, improved theft-loss protection and hardware control allow IT managers to enhance and scale customer support while reducing support costs.

“We are seeing a strong interest from European and global operators and business customers for device management functions that mirror those of the IT environment,” said Scott Cooper, senior vice president, Enterprise Solutions, Nokia. “By adding the new capabilities into our current suite of products, we are responding to the market demand and accelerating the adoption of business mobility beyond mobile email.”

The new device management features of Nokia Intellisync Mobile Suite are:
– remote control for easy troubleshooting of mobile devices over-the-air
– ability to control hardware elements such as disabling the use of camera or WLAN on a mobile device
– enhanced theft-loss protection

Nokia N95 Voted European Media Phone 2007-2008

n95Nokia today announced the Nokia N95 multimedia computer has been voted ‘the European Media Phone of the Year 2007-2008’ by the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA), Europe’s leading association for consumer electronics.

Commenting on the award, EISA praised the Nokia N95 as containing “practically every feature one could imagine in a mobile device.” Additionally, the award citation of the EISA jury goes on to say: “It’s no mere mobile phone and no mere status symbol. Pick up a Nokia N95 and you hold in your hands a state-of-the-art communication tool – the ideal way to remain permanently in touch and on track with the world that surrounds you.”

Nokia Announces Product Advisory for BL-5C Battery

Nokia today issued a product advisory for the Nokia-branded BL-5C battery manufactured by Matsushita Battery Industrial Co., Ltd. of Japan between December 2005 and November 2006. This product advisory does not apply to any other Nokia-branded battery.

Nokia has identified that in very rare cases the Nokia-branded BL-5C batteries subject to the product advisory could potentially experience overheating initiated by a short circuit while charging, causing the battery to dislodge. Nokia is working closely with Matsushita and will be cooperating with relevant authorities to investigate this situation.
