Sony Ericsson Launches Its First Cellphone with GPS

Sony Ericsson launching its first mobile handset with built-in GPS functionalities at CES 2008. With built-in GPS capabilities and plenty of memory for music, games and photos, the new Sony Ericsson W760 is poised to take on the likes of the Nokia N95, which already offers GPS functions. The handset also offers tri-band, quad-band EDGE, and high-speed 3G HSDPA internet access.

That makes the Sony Ericsson W760 the first handset to offer broadband speed mobile internet all over the world. There’s also the SenseMe functionality, which selects music based on your mood, tilting functions for controlling games, and accelerator functions.

Sony Ericsson W760 will available on the market during the second quarter of 2008.

Sony Ericsson W580i Available through AT&T

Sony Ericsson’s W580i (reviewed here) is at last coming to the United States through AT&T. As a Walkman phone, the 580i focuses heavily on music, featuring special playback software, an FM tuner and higher-quality earbuds; the battery can provide up to 20 hours of music playback, or nine hours of call-time.

On its new network, the phone can identify songs through either Sony Ericsson’s TrackID or AT&T’s own Music ID service, and it will come preloaded with an AT&T music folder and a MEdiaNet web browser. The phone is expected to be available across the US this month, at a cost of $270 list or as low as $80 after a rebate and two-year contract.

Sony Introduces A910 Walkman

Sony today introduced A910 Walkman. The A910 series is one of the few media players anywhere that can not only receive TV but play it as well: courtesy of a built-in 1Seg tuner and an electronic programming guide, the A910 can play digital over-the-air broadcasts on its 2.4-inch LCD and encode the shows on the fly as permanent copies. Up to 100 hours of footage can be saved on a 16GB player, Sony says. Direct line-in automatically creates individual audio tracks from a CD player or a similar device. Playback is also special in the A910, Sony adds. For the first time, noise canceling is built into the player itself and will eliminate most background sounds whether watching TV or listening to music.
