Yahoo Interested in Bringing Its Own Phone Too

The Gphone is so yesterday’s news. Yahoo might just take away from Google’s glory with their own plans on developing a personal mobile phone. Yahoo is a search engine too, so why shouldn’t this work? No logic in that.

Yahoo might have felt that its efforts are not appreciated as much as they should and that Google’s lead on them is getting too big. The solution was that of keeping a close track of their work and dimming the difference as much as possible. In fact, the company might have been working on such a concept for even longer than Google has, but has managed to keep a low basis on it and make less of a fuss about it.

Google Fuels Gphone Speculations with Mobile Payment Patent

Google’s interest for mobile phones has been reaffirmed with a new patent that the company has developed for mobile payment. This gives no hints on the future release of the speculated Gphone, but shows the company’s decision of investing in this field.

Google has applied for a patent for a mobile payments service that will allow users to make payments at retail shops using their handsets. The system is called “Gpay” and uses text messages for payment authenticate, debit the purchaser’s account and credit the seller’s account.

New Palm Treo Arrives Next Week

Palm is launching its new Treo smartphone in Europe on 12 September.

The new Palm Treo, which is rumoured to be launched as the Palm Centro, is a Windows Mobile 6-powered device that Palm is aiming at the younger user. The focus of the device is very much on messaging – text, email and instant messaging – and the mobile internet. As usual with Palm Treo devices, the new smartphone will have a Qwerty keypad under a large display.

Palm has been rumoured to be working closely with internet services, including Google and Yahoo, to enhance the new device’s internet functionality. A new page on Palm’s website is trialling the smartphone ahead of its launch, and offering visitors the chance to win one.

Taking work on holiday through endless phone calls is not a new thing. It’s annoying for the handset’s owner, but also for those sitting around him and having to hear the constant ringing and long talks. A Caribbean beach looks to get rid of this type of vacation by banning any calls those who spend time within the area might receive.

Palm Islands is a popular holiday destination in the Grenadines that will be subject to a change which will surely make it even more popular than ever before. Mobile phone use will be banned from now on for everybody spending time on the island. This means that handsets, PDAs and laptop computers are prohibited within half a mile of Casarina Beach.
